SWEET WRAPPER
Sweet Wrapper is a short film created by Arra. It creatively explores the idea of imposter syndrome and self doubt as an inevitable part of the path to success. It seeks to offer motivation through the metaphor of sweet and sweet wrapper.
We are born as little want machines, and an inevitable part of life as a want machine is being told we can’t have something we want. When that moment comes, the thing we want tumbles into our deep psyche with all the reasons why we can’t have it. The thing we want is like a sweet, wrapped in the words “can’t have me.” The resistance, the imposter syndrome, the doubt - it’s all part of the journey to accomplishing our dreams. So unwrap the treat and have the courage to chew on what’s between you and your subconscious delights… And then rejoice in the delight of receiving what’s inside, cause you chewed on the wrapper for it!
DID YOU KNOW?
When I was sharing this idea with Nyaniso, he didn’t quite understand it. We were in a restaurant, and so instead of telling him, I took a tissue, wrapped into a sweet shape and then chewed on it. His face was repulsed and that overjoyed me - I love the juxtaposition between the gorgeous glam look and the messy borderline-gore.
